In a tough economy, people are finding resourceful ways to get necessary items and couponing is just as popular and exciting as in previous decades. You don’t have to subscribe to a Sunday newspaper (although I still believe everyone should read their newspapers) to get coupons or visit department stores for promo codes because the Internet makes it easier to get great coupons. Many supermarkets carry online coupons and sometimes their online coupons are better than those that are in the store. Who needs Sam’s Club when you have tons of coupons to buy in bulk with? And if you shop locally, you’re helping the community.
To maximize the effectiveness of your couponing, you should organize them into categories. In my case I collect many clothing coupons so when I need to stock up on my hippie 70s-influenced clothing (I’m hooked on that decade’s fashions), I organize the coupons by the name of each store and nearest expiration date. Another thing you should do is write a list of items you need for that month and search for coupons based on the list. When you do this you won’t print out coupons for items you won’t need. Also read the stores’ policies regarding manufacturers’ coupons as well as the restrictions on the coupons themselves.
Holidays are the best times for bargains so when it gets close to holidays, you want to look at different coupon websites to print certain coupons out so you can do your holiday shopping early. You can also use this method if someone’s birthday falls on or near a holiday. For example, if your grandmother’s birthday is two days before Valentine’s Day, you can get coupons for her favorite gemstone jewelry and fudge candy two weeks ahead of time.
